Meet Aisha
Mrs. Aisha is a 38 years old married woman with a child. She is a secondary school certificate
holder who plies her
trade in the Mile12 area of Lagos. Her trade is the making of Zobo drinks and Plantain/Potato Chips
which she makes
herself for sale.
Prior to the S.I.M.B.I training, Aisha was a trader with no inclination as to how money works. For
her, it was okay that
she had a business and was earning some money daily. Prior to the training, she had never attended a
financial training
before and here are some of the lessons Aisha learnt from the just concluded training sessions:
-
1. The role of paying one’s self salary from a business
-
2. The difference between income and profit
-
3. How budgeting could help structure her business and finances
-
4. Learning what overhead costs are and how to properly account for them – carriage inwards,
gas, utilities, packaging etc.
-
5. The health challenges and prevention of female related diseases
-
6. Insurance and how it can benefit small businesses
Impact of the Seed Grant
Aisha did share the following as the benefits accrued from being a beneficiary of the Seed Grant:
-
1. Expanded her business to purchasing more quantity of raw materials – zobo leaves and other
ingredients needed
-
2. Added a complementary product to her line of existing products - Soya Milk and stocking up on
Millet to be able to meet
orders
-
3. Was able to initiate her Emergency Fund from the Seed Grant and hopes to continue to save
into the fund.
