Meet Floritta
The story of Florrita Peters is one of resilience and passion. While life may have dealt its blow at
her; she has
refused to be broken by these experiences. Florrita is a single parent who is passionate about
helping women birth their
children – a midwife. She is an Auxiliary Nurse with some training from private hospitals.
She is a micro business woman living and doing business in Ketu area of Lagos, Nigeria. She sells
pharmaceutical drugs
and snacks from her home. She sometimes volunteers at hospitals as this provides an avenue for her
to also pick up some
midwifery skills.
Florrita’s dream is to have a midwifery center where she is able to take delivery of children in a
safe environment. She
also hopes that this will afford her the opportunity of being able to help more women embrace modern
medicine to ensure
mother and child safety. She also hopes to have a chemist where she will be able to dispense drugs
to her community.
Florrita s an avid member of the thrift and savings contribution system. She has never attended a
financial literacy
training but understands that having a healthy savings culture is a major stepping stone to her
living her dreams. In
the course of attending the S.I.M.B.I training workshop, Florrita has learnt the following:
-
1. How to identify market opportunities
-
2. How to explore collaborations to increase her income stream
-
3. How to implement sales strategy to increase her profitability
-
4. Basic savings, budgeting and expense culture
-
5. How to identify bad financial habits that can inhibit business growth and ability to create
wealth.
Impact of Seed Grant
Florrita has been a beneficiary of the N25,000 grant from PFDN and says the funds was divided into
three parts. A
certain sum went into a new savings for her as emergency funds, to buying more materials for her
snacks making business
and the third to purchase more drugs for sale. She hopes to speak to more women to encourage them to
take on antenatal
care at hospitals where she hopes she can discuss a commission payment for doing this.
The story is yet unfolding……
